For enthusiasts like myself, the NY Auto Show is an expose for not only new vehicles, but the wheels they’re sporting. As typically a means of insight and inspiration, the wheels at the ‘23 NY Auto Show did not disappoint, even if there weren’t as many of them as previous years.
With the absence of brands such as Mazda, Mercedes, Infiniti, Acura, and Cadillac, I’m certain that we’re missing out on a number of cool wheel-sets. Nonetheless, take a look at some of the most compelling wheel designs that could be found on the show floor.
2023 Dodge Charger Daytona Electric The most compelling and sophisticated wheel design of the show, and my personal favorite. These wheels stood as a defining characteristic of the new vehicle, adding technical flare to the vehicle’s rather simple side-profile.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Shapes are the name of the game with the Ioniq 5’s wheel set featured this year. With the Ioniq’s sharp and bold angles and attributes, one would expect the wheels to turn heads. I think Hyundai delivered appropriately here.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 The collage-like appearance of these 20″ wheels on the new Hyundai Ioniq 6 complimented the rounded aspects of the car surprisingly well. Black painted spokes are a trend that doesn’t look like it will be going out of style anytime soon.
2023 Koenigsegg Regera The folks at Koenigsegg made sure the carbon-theme did not end at just the body, carrying those same carbon details right down to the center lock wheels. The technology, known as Aircore, allows the spokes and the center part of the wheel to be completely hollow, cutting out a ton of weight and preserving rigidity.
2023 BMW 7-Series While BMWs presence at the ’23 NYIAS was much to be desired, I couldn’t help but notice the wheel-design upon their largest model as I passed by their staging area. Despite the automaker’s new becoming an acquired taste nowadays, I was pleased to see that the wheels were at least visually consumable.
2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Not sure if these were real beadlockers, but how practical would that be anyway? These wheels give off the aggressive off-road-y vibes on a truck that is slowly proving itself worthy of performing true off-road activities.
2023 Chevrolet Silverado EV With all of the buzz surrounding this all-electric pickup from Chevy, I was glad to see an edgy wheel-design on it. While not the most utilitarian appearance, it didn’t at all feel like a cop-out. Let’s just hope air is getting to those brakes.
2023 Koenigsegg Remera The supercar brand’s second wheel on the list utilizing their Aircore tech features a more traditional design that suits the scoop-heavy and aero-full body perfectly.
